Boleon Font
– A rounded sans-serif font with over 270 characters
For demonstration purposes, the Boleon font has been used on this project page to display the text.
Boleon is a rounded sans-serif font. It comprises over 270 individually designed characters. The font is available free of charge for personal use at dafont.com and has already been downloaded over 7,000 times.
The exploration of type design was carried out independently and driven by personal interest. The font was created using the Fontself Maker extension for Adobe Illustrator. The project spanned a total period of six months. Approximately two thirds of this time were dedicated to designing the individual glyphs, while the remaining time was spent on kerning (the adjustment of spacing between characters). The objective was to develop a simple, versatile typeface with a distinct character, while maintaining strong readability in continuous text.
Boleon appears somewhat narrower compared to most common grotesque fonts. This effect is further visually reinforced by the unusually high midlines of many uppercase letters (for example, the letters B and R). The stroke weight varies only minimally between uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and numerals, as well as between horizontal and vertical lines. The rounded glyphs (for example, the O) often extend slightly beyond the typographic baseline. Taken together, many such decisions — often very subtle — result in a more harmonious and balanced overall appearance.
